ADVENT is a time in which, for the Christian, the past, the present, and the future all seem to collide with great intentionality.
PAST – We look back and remember when the Father said it was time and sent his Son, the Savior of the world, to be born of a virgin.
“…the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).” – Isaiah 7:14 NLT
PRESENT – We look inward to reflect on ourselves and obediently respond to the Holy Spirit, who tells us now is the time. So, we repent and live fully, committing to proclaiming Christ to the world through our words and deeds, all in hopes of dying empty.
[Jesus] said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. – Gospel of St. Luke 9:23 NLT
FUTURE – We look forward to his second coming by joining with all of creation, longing for the time in which the Father will once again say, “It is time.” For then the Son will come with glory to judge the quick and the dead, and we shall rejoice.
“Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” – Revelation 22:20b NLT
Remember. Reflect. Rejoice. The King is ‘nigh.
